The year 1995 is considered the beginning of the South Korean martial art - Taekwondo in Georgia.

Initially, taekwondo sports circles were created in Tbilisi. Later, it quickly spread throughout Georgia and taekwondo training clubs were formed in almost all regions.

May 5, 1998 is the official date of registration of the Georgian Taekwondo Federation. In the same year, the Georgian Taekwondo Federation became a member of the World and European Taekwondo Federations. Accordingly, Georgian athletes actively participated in tournaments organized by world and European taekwondo federations.

Since 2000, taekwondo has been officially included in the program of the Olympics, and in the same year, at the Sydney Summer Olympics, the first taekwondo competition was held.
